Our Promise
The promise
If a product can't be shown to be organic and non-toxic — through its own ingredient and materials disclosure and independent certifications — it doesn't get listed.
That means no PFAS, no polyester or plastics in contact with your skin or food, and no chemical flame retardants — based on what the brand discloses and what independent certifiers confirm.
How I check — and what I don't do. I'm not a lab, a chemist, or a toxicologist. I don't test products. But I do the research: reading the ingredient lists, materials, and certifications a brand publishes, and excluding anything that can't be backed up. If that information isn't public, the product doesn't make the cut. Always read the current label yourself before you buy — see the Disclaimer.
What that means in practice
Every product listed on nontoxicnook is evaluated against a published ingredient checklist. Brands that lead with vague marketing language ("non-toxic," "all-natural," "eco-friendly") without backing don't make the cut. Full ingredient disclosure is the entry-level requirement.
Hard exclusions
Products are disqualified for any of the following:
- PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) — in any form, including coatings and treatments.
- Polyester and synthetic plastics as primary materials in textiles, kitchenware, or items that contact food or skin.
- Chemical flame retardants — PBDEs, antimony, boric acid, etc.
- Undisclosed fragrance — "fragrance" or "parfum" as an opaque catchall.
- Optical brighteners in laundry and textile products.
- Phthalates (DEHP, DBP, BBP, etc.) in any form.
What we look for
- Full ingredient disclosure on the product or brand site.
- Third-party certifications where applicable (GOTS, GOLS, OEKO-TEX, EWG Verified, MADE SAFE, GREENGUARD Gold).
- Brand transparency — sourcing, manufacturing, ownership.
- Consistent formulation — products are re-verified periodically and de-listed when formulations change.
Independence
nontoxicnook does not accept payment for placement, ranking, or coverage. Affiliate links may exist on product pages; they never affect what gets included or how it's positioned.
Why
The whole point of this site is to be the go to source for finding the perfect non-toxic organic products for your home. There are more companies and products everyday as consumers become smarter about their purchases and I plan on keeping nontoxicnook as a trusted source of the current market.
